My 5 Deadly Blogger Mistakes

/ Wednesday, December 12, 2012 /

It has been 3 years since I became active online and been blogging for almost 2 years, yet I am still very new to this blogging kind of stuff and yes I am a newbie. Because I was such a moron I did a LOT of blogging mistakes which I am going to share today .

The first year was fun, because it wasn't that complicated, all I did was have fun blogging and I didn't even know you could make money out of it. Then I decided to make it a full time hobby, and try to increase my ranks and traffic.

Blogging is like an online game to me, I want to level up as much as possible and surpass other bloggers like me. But instead of climbing to the top I started loosing traffic, and rankings because I made some mistakes and I was too lazy to do all those stuff that could boost my traffic and rank.

This is my confession, and this is my deadly blogger mistakes.

Mistake #1.  I Have No Goal

This is the first of my blogging mistake I noticed, I was such an airhead I did blog for no purpose, no goal, I just sat on the computer, post some stuff and leave it. Having a goal is one of the most important thing you should keep in mind and ask these questions to yourself first.

why do I want to blog?
what is my purpose? fame? money? fun?

Mistake #2.  No Promotion

At first I thought, when you start blogging you just write and leave it there, wrong! what is the purpose of blogging if you don't have any readers. If you see my very first blog design most people would probably laugh at it because it sucks and has no social sharing buttons in which you cannot share your post to any social networking sites.

Promotion should be a routine when you are done writing. Share your latest post on your friends, family, use sites like facebook and twitter for spreading your post like a virus.

Mistake #3. Writing for Myself

I did make blogging a diary before. I posted some nonsense stuff like, what is my favorite movie, actors, why I hate this and that and the result was dismal, I didn't have any comments, page view is so low in short nobody gives a crap about my diary.

My life isn't actually boring, but who cares about an average Joe who blogs just about anything that enters his mind. Lets face it, readers come to your site to be entertained or learn something new, they don't care about your whining, how crappy your life is, or why your boyfriend dumps you.

If you want to be a successful blogger always keep in mind of what the readers might like and think only a little about yourself. Your beliefs and opinions should be minimized and not be prioritized in all of your article.

Mistake #4. I Didn't Purchase a Hosting Service

Yes, I admit! I still keep the ".blogspot.com" on my domain name because of that I still suck. As an unemployed blogger, I don't have that much resources spending on my hobbies, including blogging. Actually I want to purchase a hosting service maybe next year. I found some sites that offer a very cheap web hosting in which I can actually afford.

But before I remove the ".blogspot.com" I need to save money for buying a new laptop, the one I am currently using is made in Germany and I have trouble with its settings and keyboard, it is also very slow.

Every blogger or website owner should have its own domain name, blogger.com is really good for newbies like me because it is free, but it still owned by Google. Disadvantage of not having your own domain name is that, Google can delete your blog anytime if they want to.

Mistake #5. My Mind on the Money

This deadly mistake almost make me quit blogging. Since the day I learned how to make money with Google's Adsense, I get so impatient, I was so eager getting my first paycheck. I often check my daily earnings, and when I see it didn't grow I almost quit blogging because some devil just entered my head and start whispering that I don't have what it takes to succeed.

But after almost 5 months quitting, I finally realized that I love doing it, I miss writing, I miss answering comments and emails. My reason for blogging is NOT to make money, it is about learning and sharing what you learned, back to your readers. Because of those blogger mistakes FH2M was born last October, my main reason is to tell the readers that making money online is not easy as it looks.

10 Sure Ways to Make a Profitable Blog

10 Sure Ways to Make a Profitable Blog

You probably heard that you can make money online with niche blogs. But you don't know how. In this post I will share to you the steps to build a profitable niche blog to monetize and finally make money! If you have been blogging, but still didn't make the earnings you are hoping,  then you probably missed on something.

I have here 10 steps to build a profitable blog niche that will surely make you money.

1. Select a profitable market.

The first step is to select for a market. Make sure you know a lot about it if it is profitable today and even in the near future. You need to know if that market is the next big thing and try to create effective strategies on how to edge other competitors.

Stay updated for the latest information about your market. Be knowledgeable about its recent development and news. If you can do that consistently, you are 1 step closer to blogging success.

2. Avoid Niche Distractions.

The second step is to avoid being unfocused for a certain topic. This usually happens for new bloggers, because sometimes there are ideas popping out of nowhere and you think it is cool and you tend to apply it to your blog, then you lost focus on a certain topic.

Don't give in , do not change your topic. If you are blogging about weigh-loss then don't blog about cancer research, because some people are only interested on one topic and focusing to one niche will make you an expert and will rank highly on search engine.

3. Plan before you go to battle.

Usually some Internet Marketers forget the third step, that is why some of them failed. Planning is very important like, you need to have a plan on how to attack search engines, and what is your marketing strategy.

Planning also involves keywords. Don't write any articles yet, do your research and pick those keywords that will match perfectly to your site.

4. Study on your market.

Fourth step is to study about your chosen market. If you're chosen topic is very popular, then you need to study more and dig deeper.

Also study about the behavior of your targeted audience. Studies will help you to know about how they make buying decisions, what is it about that they like about this product/ service.

5. Many head is better than one.

The fifth step is you need other people to do your work. Although you can do it by yourself, as a newbie blogger you haven't made any money yet, let's say you have a day job and you have little time writing on your blog, so you need to hire someone to do work for you.

Some bloggers and webmasters are not really writers, so they hire writers mostly online. You can found them on sites like oDesk or Fiverr, and yes, you need money unless, you have someone willing to do it for free.

6. Write relevant and quality content.

What is it?
when your articles, posts and marketing campaigns are relevant to your audience, specific and helpful, it’s a quality content. To tell you honestly, there is nothing in this world that hasn't been already written.

Our task is to rewrite that is already written. But put your writing style into it and add some quality effort ( like putting pictures, slideshows or cartoons related to the topic ) so that your audience will like it and will not hesitate sharing it to other people.

7. Build anchor text backlinks from your site.

If you have a lot of backlinks, search engine will see your site as very important. But, you don't just need links, you need quality links related to your keywords. When you are building links, make sure you use the primary keywords and phrases as anchor text. By doing this, search engine will reward you by putting your site on the right direction.

8. Find a product that can sell.

Selling online is not easy, because most customers already know what they want and will think twice buying the product/service you are offering. Your role as a niche marketer is NOT selling, you are going to pre-sell them the more about the product. Point out the strong benefits about the product and use it as a hook to lure them into the checking out page. Of course, a site related to its niche and product will have a higher chance to sell.

9. Promote your blog.

For me, Marketing is King and Content is Queen.

Promoting your niche site is very important to make a profitable blog. There are many ways to market your brand. Here are some of it
  • Social Networking sites
  • Press Release
  • Advertising on other blogs
  • Submit videos on you tube
  • Guest posting
  • SEO services

10. This is not a sprint its a marathon.

Blogging takes time to master, this is not a job. For me, it's my hobby and I am having fun doing it.
The tenth step is, this is not a race, this is not about who gets there first, but about who survives.

If you are passionate about making a profitable blog, I suggest of not giving up and just do your thing CONSISTENTLY. Being committed and consistent will be your fuel to become a successful niche blogger.

Quotes of Success from Successful People

Being an entrepreneur is hard, because we are doing what is not common to other people. Usually entrepreneurs see things small BIG, just like a pencil, for a some its just a pencil, for an entrepreneur it could be more, and he/she will find a way to make it extra ordinary.

I remember a story about Steve Jobs, someone has told him a Personal Computer was a bad idea, you know what? He didn't listen, because he knows in the back of his head that Personal Computers are the Future.

Walt Disney the famous creator of Mickey, Donald and Goofy. Did you know when he was about to create Disney Land no Bank has lended him money on the first place, because critics say a theme park is just a waste of time, because adults are not into it. Besides being rejected by many, Mr. Disney still continued his dream and created one of the most amazing theme parks in the world.

If you are feeling burned out and ready to quit, I have here quotes of success to fuel your perseverance tank.

Principles of a Successful Blogger

blogger ethics
With todays boom of internet marketing, blogging is on top when it comes to money making online. A blog can do lots of ways to earn, from affiliate marketing to PTC incomes, there is no doubt a lot of people are into this to start making money. To maintain  a smooth sailing career in the blogosphere world, we got to follow some ethical principle to ensure success and keep your foot on the ground.

I have here a must followed principle for bloggers to keep your readers happily bonded with your blog.

Invest on a lot of determination.

Blogging is a getting rich slow career, we invest in time, effort and money. Results don't happen overnight, for some, it took them 5 years to actually earn real money!

Just keep this in mind that you blog because you offer them entertainment or you love to help your readers. It is a give and take relationship. You provide service, they give loyalty, and having a lot of loyal followers will generate income. Just be patience and have fun doing it.

You have to be determinant and consistent in whatever you do. Even if your blog isn’t doing well, you cannot just stop working on it. However, We know that it might get pretty depressing when you aren’t getting the desired feedback but that is not the end of the world. You need to focus and work on it more. You need to work with passion and more determination. Blogging in the true spirit of making a difference will surely make your way. Don’t stop! Just work your heart out!

Broaden your Social Circle.

Keeping yourself updated within your social circle is important for a blogging career. You need to have a social spirit and loves to interact with your readers everyday. To broaden your social circle, you got to join other networks, meet other bloggers just like you, share some stuff, opinion, learn new things and keep in touch with them.

You need to socialize as much as you can and develop new relationships. Your blog will be your identity, seeing bloggers having the same interest as you could make things easier on building relationships with other bloggers. Just make sure you share the same interest.

Be creative.

Creativity is very important in blogging. Having a creative mind will make you very interesting and popular. Show your unique style in writing or on designing of your blogs. If you have more than two blogs, make it unique from one another, showing creativity will amaze your readers. Even the slightest innovations can bring people to your blog and make them your captives. Try bringing out the reality in your words, keep them light but effective!

Keep your opinions and beliefs to yourself.

Today’s world is increasingly divided along political and moral lines. If you reveal your thoughts on controversial issues there will be some clients who’ll no longer be willing to support your product or service. Keep politics, morality and controversy out of your business blogging, regardless of how strongly you feel about an issue.

Present information clearly and concisely.

Make your posts scannable by including sub-headings, by making key words and phrases bold, and by using paragraph breaks frequently. This makes your writing look more professional and will enable busy clients to extract the essence of your posts even if they don’t have the time to read each word.

Avoid Arrogance.

Arrogance is one thing that people dislikes the most. Whether you are a newbie or a famous blogger, this is intolerable in both the cases. The blogging community eagerly welcomes passion and opinions but closes the doors for humiliation and ego. You should opt for some better ways of advancement instead of demeaning other bloggers. Just keep in mind, you are a blogger like others and you should use it as a tool for success rather a weapon to humiliate your readers.

Target the right audience.

It's important to know who your audience is. Make sure you perform your market research well and find out your group of target audience. Once this is done, you would have to focus on writing for this audience. The content you put up on your blog should directly speak to your target audience.

Treat readers like your customers.

Respond to every comment and e-mail in a prompt and courteous manner. Answer every question to the best of your abilities and do not ignore them. Your readers are potential clients and will generate an impression of your customer service based on how you manage your blog community. Take the time to do this well.

Don’t start what you can’t finish.

If you start a business blog you better be prepared to stick with it. A client who enjoys your business blog for a month only to watch it fall into disuse and disrepair will make some powerful assumptions about your business as a result of this. If you’re not absolutely committed to your business blogging then, simply put, don’t start. If you lose your enthusiasm at any point be sure to recruit someone who can keep things afloat for you.
